A truck driver with 3 crore views on Youtube
This again proves, this is the best era to be alive yet.
I stumbled into a youtube channel on Linkedin.
It was a vlogging channel, but if tech, lifestyle, prank etc.. came to your mind, it’s definitely not any of that.
It was a youtube vlog of a truck driver!! (R Rajesh Vlogs)
The minute I saw it, I got into his channel and spent nearly an hour binging through his videos at midnight.
It was entirely in Hindi and even though I barely understood it, I was glued to whatever he was speaking of and especially whatever he was cooking!
I then wondered how does he manage shooting, editing, thumbnail creation, uploading etc while he was always on the road.
I got the answer from one of his QnA videos - in which he said that the idea of running a vlog originated from his two sons to whom he used to send videos of amazing stuff he saw while the journey. They told him to start putting those on youtube, and they are the ones who edit, upload and manage the channel.
It is here that I thought how powerful ease of internet accessibility, access to smartphones and free education is transforming India.
In addition to that, I did a bit of research - I wanted to understand how much of this would benefit the family in terms of income. An average truck driver in India earns upto INR 30,000 per month. I took a look at his recently uploaded videos and I could see that he uploads almost daily and all of those videos get above 100k videos.
Meaning his channel definitely gets more than 3 million views in a month. From the information I got from a YouTuber friend of mine, 1 million views on youtube generally provide about INR 30k. Hence 3 million views mean about INR 1 lakh per month!
Imagine going back 10 years and telling your parents that a truck driver can earn INR 1 lakh from his side hustle by creating videos and putting them out on the internet - while doing his day job.
