Are you thinking in "First principles"?
Getting into the root of the problem and fixing it at that level is called thinking in first principles.
Consider this situation:
You are seeing fewer sales on your e-commerce site than expected.
You ask why?
You see that you have good traffic to the site, but then you research a bit and finds out that your conversion rate is only 2% but the industry-standard conversion rate is 4% (ie, 4 out of 100 visitors end up buying)
Now you know the conversion rate is a problem, You again ask why?
You find out that there are no reviews for your products on the landing page. Which is a strong factor that makes people buy a product.
You ask why?
Customers are not asked explicitly to give a rating or to leave a review
How to fix it?
A couple of ways are:
i) Give an incentive to the delivery agent who prompts a customer to leave a rating (Without being pushy)
ii) Send out a thank you email & SMS in which you incentivise the customers who leave a review with a coupon code which can be used to claim a discount on the next purchase
This is a principle famously followed by Elon Musk. His team thinks at the level of fundamental physics to challenge what's perceived impossible.
