Going OUT-OF-THE-BOX for getting followers (Bankonfi's Instagram Example)

All modern-day marketers are concerned about anyone of the following metrics: cost per lead, cost per sale and/or cost per follower.
Today I’ll be focusing on the latter - getting new followers on your brand’s social media. To be honest it’s proving to be one of the toughest challenges out there now cause people just do not want to follow a brand on Instagram.
We have been trying out a lot of strategies in our agency to get followers for our client’s accounts and the level of hardship just keeps on increasing. The problem is that when we run follower growth-oriented campaigns like giveaways, the quality of the followers goes down. Probably they are contest mongers.
But the last day I saw a sponsored story on IG and it caught my attention. Here’s it:
It was an ad run by bankonfi. It caught my attention because it was funny and had a strong CTA at the same time. They took on the notion that auto drivers never charge as per the meter and literally put across a “dude with a sign“ with a real (I suppose) auto-driver and gave the funny promise of “Will charge as per meter if bankonfi reaches 60k“
When I saw the ad for the first time (2-3 days ago) they had about 41k followers and when I checked today they have grown to 46k followers- obviously not all is attributed to this still I’m guessing it’s working.
