How a good "Story" sells and even helps in getting sympathy from customers: (The Formula 1 Example)
But it's hard to showcase on a dashboard
Nowadays before I go to watch any new movies in the theatre, I often watch some interviews of the film’s crew talking about their story which includes their philosophy, hardships and many other incidents that happened during the shooting.
What I feel mostly is that whenever I go watch the movie after knowing the story behind how the movie came to be, I pardon the mistakes or plot holes in the direction or story. In short, I empathise with the creators and want to see them win.
The same applies to sports, many of my friends are watching F1 these days, but I don’t feel like watching it - then I understood that I don’t like it because I have no clue about the story behind each team and the drivers. Almost all of those new F1 fans became fans after seeing the Netflix documentary “Drive to survive“ which covers the story of the drivers, hence they are glued.
The logic can be applied to even brands, Elon musk and Steve Jobs are extreme examples.
I experienced the same first hand when a couple of years ago we got featured in a popular youtube channel, where we narrated our entire story on how we built our agency. The result? the video went on to get more than 1 lakh views and it gave us 250+ leads and lakhs in terms of revenue.
