How to be consistent 101

Here's how I have been consistent with a lot of stuff for the last 3-4 years

I have been writing daily on LinkedIn for the last two years, tweeting for the last one and a half years, writing weekly emails for more than a year, working out for almost 4 years, meditating almost daily for 4+ years, been reading books for the last 5 years etc..

The following pointers are what I believe that is helping me to remain consistent:

  1. Weekly Journaling: I believe in the power of tracking habits on a weekly basis. A day is too short and a month is too long. A week gives you the freedom to take a couple of days off and still cover it up with the rest of the days. (Eg. I work out only 4 days a week and meditate 5 days a week)

  2. Small goals: I aim to increase my LinkedIn followership by a mere 500 every month, Twitter by 100 and email by even less than that. I write down almost 6-7 similar small goals at the start of the month and checks whether I’ve made it at the end. My completion rate is above 90% which gives me enough motivation to continue.

  3. Enjoying the process: Luckily for me, I am a process guy. I figured out recently that the best thing I like is the process of building something, and not looking at the result. So if you love the process of getting that one email out, or creating that course then you have already won regardless of the outcome.

  4. Only competing with me: This is something I try to implement but I will not say that I’ve been very successful in doing it. I feel jealous when I see other creators getting tons of followers by just getting one post viral on LinkedIn, I get jealous when newbies in the gym start looking more in shape than me. But at the end of the day, I try to overcome by just looking at my progress: who I am today vs who I was last month.

All of the above four pointers apply equally to marketing as it is too personal growth, let it be driving organic traffic, growing social media and yes even when it comes to cracking paid campaigns.
