My insurance which I was being covered under my parent’s coverage comes to an end this year, hence I was in search of a new insurance plan.
My knowledge about insurance policies is vague and I was really confused about which/how to select.
Then a brand called “Ditto“ came into my mind just because I was following its cofounder, Pawan Kumar on Linkedin. He posts really dope content around insurance, debunking the highly complicated industry.
The brand was “Top of my head“ due to its social media presence and absolute bomb of a content strategy.
I googled them and visited their website. In which they had a prominent “Whatsapp Us“ button. “Phew”, I thought. “I don’t have to click on numbers so that I can bypass a robot via call - I can just text them, which is the go-to for my generation“
I started chatting with them, in fact, it was not another chatbot but a real human with real knowledge of Insurance. I started firing out all of my questions to which he/she was replying patiently. In fact, I was asking one question and I would get busy and miss out on the reply and I used to get back with another question maybe let’s say 2-3 days later and still they were patient and kept on answering without prompting me or pushing me to buy it.
Meanwhile, somehow my bank sensed that I might be looking for an insurance plan and started continuously calling me - like 3-4 times a day. I was super annoyed, and finally, they told me that they have a really “good“ plan on offer which will get expired in “one day”.
They told me the plan’s name and I straight away consulted with Ditto and asked Ditto how can I actually compare plans. Then they told me that it’s mostly about the “Claim settlement ratio“
After that, they also told me that the plan that my bank was trying to sell me had a very poor claim settlement ratio of 90%.
Then I told this fact to my bank and they were not very interested to discuss it when they realised that they cannot lie when it comes to actual numbers, hence they quit pursuing me.
Due to some other totally independent reasons, I had to take the insurance suggested by Ditto from another party. But damn, huge respect to Ditto and the entire team for keeping it real and sticking to their tagline “No spamming, No salesperson - just insurance advice”
Trust me, people - especially Millenials and Gen Z hates pushy salesmen.
