Symbiotic relationship in marketing
A symbiotic relationship essentially means a relationship between two organisms, which may or may not benefit one or both. A mutualistic symbiotic relationship is when strictly both of them benefit.
Eg. Flowers and bees - Bees and flowers have a mutualistic relationship as well. Bees get the nectar they need to make honey by traveling between flowers. The bee brings pollen from one plant to another, resulting in pollination.
We as marketers should be focusing on developing a mutualistic symbiotic relationship with our audience/customers.
Our ads or content should not be a distraction for our customers but a piece of information or visual that brings value to their life by educating them about the benefits of our product.
It should help make their lives better. Each and every promotional activity should be planned on thinking about how we can achieve the right passage of the message.
That way, both parties win. We get a new customer. They get a product that makes their lives easier.
A good example is content marketing. In which, we provide high-quality pieces of information to the audience free of cost. They can take it for themselves and if it is good enough, help us with the process of spreading the word, aka making it 'viral'.
