The art of saying NO. This is how to do it
This week, I had an interesting experience while searching for a WordPress developer for our new project, promptrr.io. I decided to explore Fiverr to hire someone for a gig, and I came across a few profiles that seemed promising.
However, as luck would have it, most of them were already occupied with other projects and couldn't take on my gig. Nevertheless, what stood out to me was how differently two individuals handled rejecting my offer.
The first developer sent me a well-written message, expressing gratitude for my interest but regretfully informing me that they were unavailable due to a heavy workload. They suggested that I find another seller, and I appreciated their understanding.
On the other hand, the second developer simply replied with a curt "Not available. You can find someone else." This response left me with an awkward feeling, and I found myself hesitating to engage with them further.
This interaction reminded me of a quote by Warren Buffet: "You will not remember the price of the tie that you are wearing, but you will remember how the salesman treated you." It perfectly captures the essence of how our words and actions in business, sales, and marketing hold tremendous weight, even when rejecting a client.
It's important to remember that regardless of the outcome, the way we communicate and show empathy can leave a lasting impression. Treating others with respect and professionalism, even in challenging situations, is a valuable trait that sets businesses apart.
