The interesting case of CLUBHOUSE app
You might have heard about it. Otherwise, you heard it now.
There is this sudden buzz about the Voice chat room app called Clubhouse.
You can understand the increased popularity by looking at the Google Trends graph for the term "Clubhouse"
I can explain the successful marketing strategy behind it with two terms - "Network Effect" & FOMO (Fear of missing out)
Clubhouse is an Invite only app now. No, you cannot just go to the App Store to download & sign up. Any one of your friends should be caring enough that they send you an invite to join the app.
For me, that FOMO factor was the reason I was searching hard for an invite. I didn't want to miss out on the new "hot" social media. Seems like I wasn't the only one - Twitter was filled with some people selling the invite and some people begging for invites.
Secondly, just after receiving the invite and started using it, I had this incredible urge to share it with anyone of my nearest friends circle so that I'm not alone there. This is called "Network Effect". It spreads like a virus and after a few threshold time, it makes the app grow exponentially as you can see in the graph.
Are you utilising the FOMO factor & the network effect for your business?
