The power of whatsapp marketing
Digital marketers usually undermine the power of this app
We at Blusteak media organize at least one event every year. And this year we are about to conduct our 5th event yet.
For a change, this year's event does not include any speakers or sessions - and we are turning it upside down. This year, students who are interested in marketing will be bringing in presentations with their assigned campaigns and they will do the talking/pitching. Hence the name of the event is “Pitch Invasion“.
I am jumping straight onto the marketing problem of the event. Our aim was to get at least 90-100 student registrations. Initially, we thought about going out to colleges to invite students. That would take a tremendous amount of valuable time - which we can’t afford.
Hence, we had to do some growth hacking in order to get in front of final-year students. We thought about which is the one medium in which we can reach students and that too without spending a dime.
The answer came in the form of WhatsApp. Every college batch has its own WhatsApp group and that is one of those rare groups to which they really dedicate their attention.
We initially connected with many college groups by talking with our employees who are alumni of the targeted colleges, then asked someone from the batch to share our message with a poster and a link to register in the group. We were able to reach out to more than 15 colleges and within one week time, we got 97 registration - all organic and the message also started doing circles in many other student groups from which we got further registrations.
