Most of the time people think the problems that they have in hand need someone way smarter or whole lotta money to solve.
In my opinion, often the answer is in front of you. The thing is, you don’t KNOW it’s there or doesn’t want to spend energy to find it.
I’ll just jump into three buckets of thought:
Just ask:
You have a new app that helps people meditate. You have very little budget to spend. How do you solve it? Open up Twitter and search for the keywords “stressed out“, “need a break“, “bad sleep“ etc.. and DM them, not a templated message, but something customised talking about their specific tweet or story.
Enough DMs (the grind) and you will see people reacting positively.
Think about making people commit/start
Now, you were able to start a conversation. What’s next? Chances are way less that the other person is going to “pay” for it directly. Give her a free trial. (Simple, but many forget this part)
Now the duration of her free trial is about to end. Your premium package costs 50$, but after the trial, you see her not opting for premium even though she was an active user.
Now what?
Send her an email with the subject line “25$ credited to your wallet“. Which is a compelling title she is going to click. Inside it, you say you can use 25$ worth of credit to buy anything on your app. Chances are she might use it to retain the subscription. (Here I’m talking about chances, which means a 10%-20% increase in probability)
Validate
Now you have got some users and started seeing some revenue. You have a new feature idea for the meditation app, which is to come up with meditations in native languages.
How to validate?
Set up a landing page for “early access or free demo“, create a Facebook ad talking about the native language feature and push it to the region which talks in that language. You can evaluate the interest of the concept by looking at the results such as cost per click or sign up conversion rates. If it’s good enough, your idea is validated. You can scale it into your app.
